Dr Davies is a consultant Respiratory physician within the Respiratory Support and Sleep Centre. He specialises in the treatment of respiratory failure, including the weaning of patients from invasive ventilation, the provision of home mechanical ventilation, and in the treatment of sleep disorders. He undertakes a weekly general respiratory clinic, a weekly sleep disturbance clinic and a day-case clinic every two weeks specialising in the assessment of patients with MND.
He is the clinical lead for respiratory physiology and has an interest in cardiopulmonary exercise testing.
He has a research interest within the provision of ventilatory support, the management of sleep disorders, the physiological assessment of respiratory function and in the non-pharmacological management of severe emphysema, having previously conducted a randomised clinical trial assessing the role of lung volume reduction surgery and more recently participated in a multi-centre study assessing the role of bronchoscopic airway bypass therapy.
